2011 - 2012
Bud Light Hi Fi Concert Series
The Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert Series hosted by Aspen/Snowmass debuts on opening weekend in November and continues through March with a series of five free, outdoor concerts held during key events and peak weekends throughout the season. Past performers include Blind Melon, Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, Donovan Frankenreiter, Ghostland Observatory, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Galactic, Pennywise, Blues Traveler, North Mississippi Allstars, De La Soul and more.
Aspen Institute's Greek Epic and Tragedy Series
Join the Aspen Institute for this new community dialogue. Each month the group will read and discuss one Greek tragedy. Starting with the two epics from Homer, the Iliad and the Odyssey, the group will continue with the great tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides, the three Greek dramatists.
Wintersköl January 12-15
Aspen's annual "toast to winter," dates back to a quiet January in 1951 when local Aspenites decided to celebrate Aspen's unique Nordic lifestyle with an eclectic weekend of festivities. Today the four day celebration features on-mountain activities, live music, a canine fashion show, WinterFest, fireworks and much more.
Gay Ski Week January 15 - 22
This year's theme is Aspen Through the Years: a retrospective look at the last 35 years of this great event. Aspen Gay Ski Week will be celebrating it's 35th year, and we are going to blow out all the stops for this big anniversary and continue to be the premier GLBT winter travel event. ESPN Winter X Games 16 January 26-29
The annual Winter X Games is the premier winter action sports event in the world, featuring athletes from across the globe competing for medals and prize money in the sports of Ski, Snowboard and Snowmobile. Winter X Games 16 will feature nighttime events and will be telecast live on ESPN and ABC.
Aspen/Snowmass Ski & Snowboard Open February 9-12
The Aspen/Snowmass Ski & Snowboard Open at Buttermilk, February 9-12, 2012, is one of the best open competitions in the nation! GIving the opportunity to get noticed for up-and-coming winter athletes, it attracts over 350 athletes to compete on the famed X Games slopestyle and superpipe courses.
Bud Light Big Air Fridays February 10, 17 and 24
This popular eight-week series is a mainstay and weekly favorite for the best snowboarders and skiers in the state of Colorado. Each week they gather to perform the latest tricks for a chance at a weekly prize purse and series points on the busy Fanny Hill/Snowmass Mall intersection.
The Owl Creek Chase February 11-12
The Owl Creek Chase has been one of Colorado's largest and most premier cross-country ski races since 1985. The challenging course from Snowmass Village to Aspen presents the very best that Colorado skiing has to offer; tough climbs, scenic views, thrilling descents and excellent snow conditions.
Aspen Laff Festival February 22-26
After thirteen years as the featured site for the HBO/U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, and three years as the co-producer and home of the Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival, the Wheeler stepped up in 2011 to present its own unique four-day comedy experience, where comics got to do what comics do best: Everything funny. The 2012 event is being planned right now, so mark your calendar. Come ski all day and laugh all night as we present the most brilliant new voices in comedy in a variety of stand-up and improv events at the Wheeler.
Colorado Freeride Championships February 24-26
The Colorado Freeride Championships (CFC) is a big mountain competition featuring both men and women skiers and snowboarders. Some of the biggest names in the industry come out to play on the cliff-littered terrain of Snowmass, creating a wild show for spectators. The expert-only terrain requires cutting-edge skills from the over 100 participating athletes who continue to push the boundaries of their sport. Spectators can watch the qualifying day of action from the base of the Hanging Valley Headwall (expert terrain) and catch the finals on the Burnside Cliffs from the deck of Gwyn's High Alpine.
Power of Four Ski Mountaineering Race March 3
With over 10,000 feet of vertical gain, including summiting the Aspen Highlands Bowl, this race is the perfect opportunity to experience all four Aspen/Snowmass ski areas like never before. Grab a teammate and get ready to ski, hike and skin Snowmass, Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands and Aspen Mountain in the inaugural Power of Four Ski Mountaineering Race. Half course option availabile on Snowmass and Buttermilk.
Aspen Fashion Week March 11-14
Aspen Fashion Week is a destination fashion event designed to showcase and market winter resort, ski and technical outerwear in the home and playground of the most stylish consumers. Designers will present Winter 2011 / 2012 collections to create a stylish marketplace for buyers, editors, trendsetters and consumers with Aspen Mountain as the backdrop. With daily après showings, on-mountain events, nightly runway shows and late night fashionable soirees, 2011 will launch the hottest fashion event to hit the Rockies.
12th Annual Bud Light Spring Jam March 16-18, 23-25
Aspen's premier spring festival in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, continues like never before with two weekends - March 16-18 and March 23-25, of new-school competitions, downtown concerts and parties. Downtown Aspen's CORE Block Party kicks off the Jam on March 16 and is free and open to the public. Also includes Chris Klug's Spring Snowboard Camp, KickAspen Big Air, Bud Light Hi-Fi Concerts, and Terrain Park Boot Camp.
KickAspen Big Air Invitational March 17
In the 13th Annual KickAspen Big Air Invitational, the best regional ski and snowboard athletes will compete under the lights at the base of Aspen Mountain. Prize giveaways and $2 Bud Lights in the Bud Light Beer Garden will round out the action at the base of the mountain.
Terrain Park Boot Camp March 17-18, 24-25
The Terrain Park Book Camp is an entry level terrain park that will be set up at Snowmass. Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club coaches and athletes will teach beginners (13 and up) how to safely slide a rail, hit a box and throw a trick. From children to parents, this is open to anyone interested in learning the ropes of the terrain park.
7908 Aspen Songwriters Festival March 21-24
Produced by Songwriter Hall Of Fame member John Oates and the Wheeler Opera House, The 7908 Aspen Songwriters Festival is the nation's most intimate musical weekend, as it creates the shortest distance between the artists who write the songs and the fans who want to hear them in their purest, most real form. Elk Mountain Grand Traverse March 24
Nearly 200 racers will being their journey tackling the 40-mile course that starts at 9,000 feet in Crested Butte, takes skiers through Mt. Crested Butte Ski Resort. The race is scheduled to start at midnight on Friday which allows entrantsto reach Star Pass (12,303 ft) before the warmth of the day increases the likelihood of avalanches. The remote route continues through the Elk Mountains and over one more mountain pass before finishing at the base of the Aspen Mountain.
Helly Hanson Battle in the Bowls March 25
This legendary race is celebrated through the Aspen Valley. With 3 divisions for competitive ski, competitive snowboard and overall non-competitive, each team must finish the course (designed by Chris Davenport and Travis McClain) within the 4 hour time frame. The cost is $75/Team and each registrant receives a Helly Hansen Baselayer that includes the event logo! This is open to any skier or snowboarder who enjoys riding Aspen Highlands.

Aspen ShortsFest April 10-15
Recognized as one of the world's "50 Leading Film Festivals" by IndieWIRE, Aspen Shortsfest is one of the world's premier international short film and video showcases for the trend-setting art form: the short. This Oscar-qualifying international competition offers a lively, thought-provoking, and humorous selection of drama, comedy, animation and documentary - all at 40 minutes or less.
5th Annual Schnee Tag April 15
Schneetag (pronounced Sch-knee Tog) is the German word for "snow day." Put simply, it translates as "daredevils willing to propel themselves down a hill, over a jump and across a pond on a craft they built themselves." This hilarious event is one not to miss. The 5th annual Schneetag invites teams of four to create a craft that they will pilot down a slope in front of Bonnie's and attempt to float across a 30x20 foot pond. Every team has a theme and will perform a skit before they descend. This event is just as ridiculous and entertaining as it sounds.
