Top Headliners Keep it Concerts Hot in Aspen This Labor Day Weekend

local events in aspen, aspen events, summer events in aspen, aspen information, aspen info, about aspen ColoradoIt is getting close to our favorite weekend of the summer when local events signify what Aspen, Colorado is all about. Sunny days still linger and roll into increasingly crisp, starry nights over Labor Day weekend, making it perfect for outdoor festivals going on in Snowmass.

Jazz Aspen Snowmass began as a simple, 3-day June festival in 1991 and has gradually grown into a summer-long event celebrating the all-American genre of Jazz and American music. The apex of this festival is the Labor Day weekend event- a 3-day extravaganza of American music celebrating the end of the festival’s 22nd year.

Concerts will take place in the Snowmass Village Town Park, which hosts the main stage, 2 side stages, VIP tent and an exciting festival-friendly market of international foods, drinks and crafts.

Here is the play-by-play of the schedule for this energy-infused weekend of fun:

The concert weekend kicks off on Friday August 31 with Steve Miller Band. This iconic 70’s group is famous for their beach- rock vibe that has served as background music in 4 decades of house parties and frat basements. All ages will love the sounds of this group, a perfect feel good start to the weekend. This music crosses generations and still enjoys serious radio air time today. Look forward to lots of mainstream classics like “Space Cowboy”, “The Joker”, “Jet Airliner”, “Jungle Love” and “Swingtown” beginning at 6:30.

Immediately following is the platinum selling country team Sugarland. This multiple Grammy Award-winning American duo spins a web of contemporary country music, and is known for giving stellar live performances that keep crowds dancing and hootin’.

The festivities continue on Saturday with up and coming contemporary jazz favorites Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue. Led by James Andrews, grandson of legendary singer/ songwriter Jessie Hill, Trombone Shorty features prodigal trombonist Troy Andrews, James’ younger brother, and highlights his smooth modern Orleans jazz style.

Up next is English folk-rock sensation Mumford & Sons. This London group formed in 2007 and quickly established a cult following which propelled it into 2 Grammy Award nominations in 2010. After performing live at the 211 Grammy awards the band gained momentum, and is now one of the most sought-after live performances on the festival circuit. Another band born from a team of brothers, Brit folk-rockers Mumford & Sons will jam the JAS stage with their signature blend of resonating vocals, banjo, mandolin and resonator guitar.

Get ready for the spectacular grand finale of the summer long festival on Sunday September 2, when a trio of talent takes the stage. Vintage Trouble kicks off at 3pm on this extra long day of music and fun. Vintage Trouble got its start in Venice Beach, CA, mixing together a unique style that nods to mid-century soul music. This group has made an impact with their vintage-sounding recording. They exploded onto the music scene in 2010, developing a loyal group of fans called “Troublemakers” throughout Europe and the US. This cult favorite touring band is going to be priming the pump with their gritty groove, sure to add some new Troublemakers to their loyal following.

Michael Franti & Spearhead are up next, so get ready. This band absolutely loves Aspen Snowmass/ and we love them. A highly anticipated veteran of the JAS Labor Day Festival and Belly Up, Michael Franti casts a spiritual spell of world-wise hip-hop/ reggae that consistently brings crowds to their dancing feet. Get ready to get your feel-good groove on!

And the icing on the cake: fist-pumping rap from bad boy Kid Rock. This Grammy-winning icon has a huge following for his crowd-loving, radio-friendly style of beat. Known for his rock-country-rap anthems like “Cowboy”, “All Summer Long” and “Born Free”, Kid Rock is known to totally turn it up in his live performances, so be prepared for one of your most memorable concert experiences ever. What better way to enjoy than at the beautiful outdoor Snowmass Town Park venue?
