Summer Events Keep Things Exciting in Aspen this August

It has been a whirlwind of activity this summer in Aspen, CO with many outstanding events! June and July were loaded with vibrant events, but the excitement continues through Labor Day in Aspen with some of the best summer events still to come.

Ongoing all summer is the Aspen Music Festival and School, which still has a lively lineup in store for another three weeks. Look forward to dozens of concerts still in store with performances by the Aspen Philharmonic Orchestra, violinist Sarah Chang, the Aspen Chamber Symphony and more!

Also on the repertoire through September 2nd, is Bluegrass Sundays on Aspen Mountain. A perfect venue for leisurely picnicking to listen to get down to some of the region's best bluegrass bands. Settle in for these fantastic free shows with the Elk Mountains as your backdrop, food and drinks from the Sundeck and plenty of fun for the kids too!

The summer music season comes to a close in Aspen with the annual Jazz Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Experience, August 31-September 2. Lionel Richie and Michael Franti kick off the event on August 31st, which culminates on September 2 with music by the Zac Brown Band.

On Wednesday evenings the Snowmass Rodeo continues with 2 more fun-filled dates in August. Arrive at 5pm to entertain the kids with pre-rodeo diversions including a petting zoo, roping lessons and mechanical bull rides. Vendors selling Western wares and BBQ wilI keep you busy before the old-fashioned rodeo begins at 7pm. If you dare, sign up to be part of the rodeo action with Mutton Bustin’ and Calf Scramble competitions. Stick around after the event for marshmallow roasting around the campfire.

August 22-26, Mountainfilm makes itself at home at Aspen's Wheeler Opera House, showcasing nonfiction stories about cultural, environmental, recreational, political and social justice issues that matter. The festival brings together world-class athletes and exceptional documentaries in a celebration of the indomitable spirit.

Don't miss the 46th Annual Mother Lode Volleyball Tournament, a favorite in Aspen, CO, August 29 through September 3. The annual event has grown to become one of the premier grassroots volleyball tournaments in the country, drawing both amateur and professional players from all over North America.
